Municipalities in Ontario are at the centre of a democratic crisis. Decades of downloading responsibilities by the Federal and Provincial governments have created an unsustainable future for cities. School boards and workers are similarly at risk of exploitation and neglect.

The City will act as a enabler of collective action by:

• Supporting the efforts of workers to have dignified labour conditions
• Supporting the efforts of students and teachers to have dignified learning conditions
• Ensuring that decisions are transparent 
• Ensuring residents are informed about decisions, their rationale, and their impact
• Defending the democratic rights of the residents of Kitchener

Workers are facing increasing precarity amidst global instability and predatory management practices. We need to be supporting a culture of dignified and secure employment. It is through the creativity and ingenuity of Kitchener workers that the economic opportunities of the future will be charted.

Cities play a critical public education role about the decisions that affect everyday life. The more informed residents are the more equipped we will all be to navigate the challenges of today and tomorrow. 

The meddling of the Province in municipal processes such as Toronto's 2022 election and the removal of the Region of Waterloo's elected chair raise grave concerns over the rights of Ontarians. It is time we have a conversation about sovereignty, democracy, and local rights.

Big Ideas

Some ideas are too big to do alone. This list are some of the projects I am championing. For them to come to fruition depends upon your support.

Municipal Sovereignty
The province's replacement of elected regional chairs with appointed cronies (that have strong mayor powers) raises big questions about the sovereignty of Kitchener residents.

Public Education Fund
Journalists, advocates and public educators need stable funding to make sure the residents of Kitchener have the information they need to face the challenges of the day.

Municipal Finance Reform
The municipal finance crisis needs to be addressed so that operational funding isn't being lost to decades of capital debt.

Neighbourhood Planning Controls
Expand funding for community engagement so local residents have more education and involvement in ensuring their neighbourhood is sustainable through growth.
