DAVID ALTON

David Alton is a community planner and facilitator with a long history of grassroots organizing and non-profit leadership experience. They are the recipient of the Lynn Macaulay Community Education Award (2025) for their efforts to change narratives about the housing crisis.

David practices a model of therapeutic planning and transformative facilitation that views community conversation as opportunities to heal division and make meaning. As a facilitator, they help advocates bridge across power, and support governments with listening to the people harmed by the status quo.

Through their work at the Social Development Centre they have been critical to the development of the Region of Waterloo's Plan to End Chronic Homelessness and the implementation of the City of Kitchener's Housing for All Strategy.

David lives with their partner and cat in Downtown Kitchener, Ward 10. In their spare time they explore the city on foot and dream up stories of cities and community.
